The Hollow Men
A personal photographic trilogy inspired by the poem of T.S.Elliot under the same title. The empty men, formless and colorless, wherever they are there is no place for them. Paralyzed force, gesture without motion. They are cut off from one another and their voices are just whispers "quiet and meaningless".
Shade
Shade is a visual quest that I undertook the last ten years. Unimportant geographically as it is, it’s an attempt to affiliate myself without prejudice or any criticizing theory with the people that came across my life during that time under different contexts and situations. Friends, lovers, vanishing strangers all became an important part of a mythical world of my construction. They became my heroes and traitors to a perceptive reality where identities could be stripped down to a naked instinct and dreams, fears and longings all gathered around and danced to the archetypal beat of life. Trying to avoid any symbolism or narrative I could in essence come to a clear enough definition of my own identity, my place in time and space. If you never take a risk, you would never know.
Lethargy
For the past year my time has being engulfed into workshops, teaching and giving out talks. All about photography, which someone might say is a good thing. “Of course it is”, I would reply. It is creative and it expands my and other’s perception and understanding of leading a conscious visual life. Of not letting the brain into a cruise control mode but overriding this social induced tendency. Using your fears and insecurities to show you the way. To harmonize, to overcome, to accept and to eventually become better than you were as a human being. Saying all this would be perfectly creditable except one thing. My driving force. Which was and is the act of photographing. The sensation of capturing something, even if this is my own personal reality/dream. I found myself into a well of personal in activeness so I had to take action. Imaging people, things and situations that were important to me and had left their indestructible mark. Using the undisputed force of photography in recording a truth, a lie, an expectation, something that is meaningful to remember.
Ascension
Ascension is an action that starts deep within dreams and memories. An escalating pressure that is directed outwards. We strive to sense the world through ourselves in all its authenticity but many of times we fall into the pitfalls of reality. Using different formats, digital and analogue cameras and a black and white depiction of impressions, creates for me a distance from perfection and it brings me closer to the imperfect edges of life. There I can visualize this gasp for air in me and in others. These images are a small part of a bigger picture which will never be completed but will always become more believable.
